Mathematics in the work of graphic designer M.C. Escher
Speaker : Tefcros Michaelides
M.C. Escher is regarded as the engraver whose ideas and creations have the most relevance to mathematics. However, he had repeatedly said that he never understood mathematics, either as a student or later when some of the leading mathematicians of the twentieth century were among his friends. In my presentation, I try to interpret this "latent" mathematical genius that characterizes Escher through his work and to study his art from a mathematician's perspective.
The event, with free entrance to the public, will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 18:00 in the ceremonial hall of the Harokopio University (Leof. Eleftheriou Venizelou 70, Kallithea-Attica). In the lecture venue also hosted the exhibition "M. S. Escher | Exploring the Infinity" with 29 framed copies of the collection of Escher's works at the Herakleidon Museum.
