The War Museum opened to the public in July 1975 with the main mission of promoting the struggles of the Greek nation. In order to fulfill its purpose, the War Museum collects, preserves and exhibits war relics, while at the same time, documents and studies the Greek war history.
To date, it has established and supervises branches in Nafplio, Chania, Tripoli and Thessaloniki.
Along with the relic’s exhibition, the museum has a historical, cinema films and photographic archive, as well as a library open to the researchers.
The museum organizes conferences, seminars, periodical exhibitions and other events, while the museum's qualified staff organizes guided tours.
Furthermore, educational programs for students of all levels are conducted in suitable areas of the museum, in cooperation with third party institutions, museum educators and animators.
